26 year old Howard Bailey Jr, known in the rap game as Chingy, is on top of his game and career. It wasn’t too long ago that errybody in the hood was rappin along with Chingy on his track “Right Thurr.” The track was a party track that gave the world what they expected from the Saint Louis rap scene. Chingy’s second mainstream album “Powerballin’” was not accepted with as much love as his first and Chingy in a sense fell off of the radar for a min. Even Though “Powerballin’” did have some singles that were crunk as hell like the track, “Fall N.”
“Hood Star” is Chingy’s latest album due to hit stores on September 12, 2006. The first single to hit the mainstream from “Hood Star” is “Pullin’ Me Back” featuring R&B singer/Movie star Tyrese. This song’s instant appeal and smooth lyrics performed in a way only Chingy can accomplish have made its success almost instant. Another single off “Hood Star” is the track “Nike Airs and Crisp Ones.” “Nike Airs and Crisp Ones,” is a track for the “Hustlas and Hustlettes.” Chingy killed this track and it has the hood goin crazy. On the track Chingy spits, “Tall Tee hang to my knees, u know Im all g’d, Evisu saggin, young smooth is what they call me.” Chingy is a thug and u needs to know dat.
The album “Hood Star” is gettin madd buzz in the streets because of the impressive line of featured artists and producers the album is boastin’. The featured artists include the oscar winning Three Six Mafia, as well as Mannie Fresh ( who is also producing tracks), Lil Scrappy, Jody Breeze, and chingy’s own group The Get It Boys. Timbaland, The Trak Starz, Mannie Fresh, DJ Paul & Juicy J, and DJ Quik are some of the producers that will lay their skillz down and create club banngin tracks with Saint Louis’ own Chingy.
Chingy has much love in the Saint Louis area, even though he does not scream out the STL’s name in errysong like fellow native Nelly seams to do. Nelly made his success before Chingy and after putting Saint Louis on the map, a belief held by many St. Louis artists was that in order to make it in the rap game you had to get in tight with Nelly and that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to sound like him either. Chingy didn’t follow this belief however. He decided to go out to the ATL and hook up with Ludacris and the DTP family. Chingy’s lyrics however did resemble Nellys and the fact that Chingy wants to stand on his own two feet and was not feelin it when people were givin Nelly credit for some of Chingy’s success started a dispute between the two rap icons that in the end probably hurt Chingy more than anything else. Its no secret that after Nelly, any rapper from Saint Louis has had a much easier time getting signed and getting his music heard on the national level. That is something that is real and errybody should respect.
Incase u aint got earrs good nuff to hurr what chingy is sayin hear is the lyrics to “Pullin’ Me Back.”
THE CHORUS:
Every time I try to leave
Somethin keeps pullin me back, me back
Telling me I need u in my life
Every time I try to go
Somethin keeps tellin me that, me that
Everything gon be alright
Every time I try to leave
Something keeps pullin me back, me back
Telling me I need u in my life
It was meant to be,
You were meant for me,
So that means we gotta make it work.”
CHINGY’S FIRST VERSE:
It was all good at first,
Spendin money, goin shoppin
Eatin at the finest restaurants
And then from club hoppin
She was right there with me bottle poppin livin that life
She just didn’t understand my lifestyle and that I ain’t like
We didnt have a worry in the world, got u diamonds got u pearls
Cut I can’t help it if Ching-A-Ling been attracting all the girls, Say What
Baby I’m a superstar and that come wit it
Gotta good nigga on the side, u betta run wit it,
Even though I’m on tha road doin shows,
I made time for me n her, relationship to grow
They tell me don’t trust a woman in this industry
But she not any woman, more like a sacred friend to me
Plus, when I’m outta town, always think of her
Might conversate with some chicks, but no one come above her,
I thought i was your man
Guess u ain’t understand,
And now I’m sittin herre, lookin crazy like, Damn.”
CHINGY’S SECOND VERSE:
Walk in tha house from hard work, my head hurt,
Instead of arguin, can I have dinner with some dessert, nuh uh,
She talkin bout this phone number she found,
Wont, give me time to put my bags down,
She’s straight up, clown,
Before we end up fightin, let me leave,
I’m exhausted and this herrre, I don’t need
Now I’m wit the fellas ridin n drinkin
She’s blowin my two way up but I need some time for thinkin Yeaa,
I wanna go back, but something sayin naaaw,
Let me give her some space and the next day I might call
What should I do
Look, let me ask ya’ll
Should I stay and talk, or let this relationship fall
I ain’t down on with havin’ my feelings crushed
But it happens some time
Either love it or give it up
I thought I was your man
Guess u ain’t understand
And now I’m sittin’ herre lookin crazy like, Damn.”
CHINGY’S THIRD VERSE:
To all the fellas know u feel me, u ever had a woman,
Good times led to bad times and you ain’t see it coming,
Try the best to make her happy,
But it wasn’t enough,
Cuz mamma told me in relationship to roll ya bluff,
And I aint the one to have my head down,
Weak and stressed out,
As bad as it hurts I gotta move to the next route,
Yess I thought i was her man,
Guess she ain’t understand,
And now she’s sittin’ herre lookin crazy like Damn.”
If you had any doubts about Chingy’s greatness, buy his album, “Hoodstar” and get ready to realize what you’ve been missin’.
