Comin straight outta Dallas, Johnny Ringo has texas buzzing with his skillz and he has myspace.com on lock. It aint no secret that myspace has the ability to make any rapper into the next multi-platinum superstar. This fact alone has made a number of up and coming artists just like Johnny Ringo use the internet to their advantage and display their skills to the whole world with the click of the mouse. I say this because Ringo is currently Myspace.com’s number one unsigned artist from the state of Texas. A state which has had a long tradition in the hip hop world but has seen an unbelievable growth in their Hip Hop presence in just the last three years with the emergence of the Swisha House, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, and Chamillionaire onto the mainstream hip hop scene. This recent exposure has given artists from Texas an unbelievably amazing opportunity to enter into the game.
Being the number one myspace.com artist, Ringo has enough exposure to take his game to the next level and get signed to a major label. His flow is perfection, goin over the tracks with smart lyrics that seem to come out effortlessly.
The track that has gotten the most plays on Ringo’s myspace page is his track, “Johnny Ringo Mixtape.” “Johnny Ringo Mixtape” features The Game’s beat for his song, “Let Me Put You On The Game.” Johnny Ringo flows over this beat like it was his own. Ringo spits, “Im in a broke down winnabego, with a fucked up fender, no retreat no surrender, I pass demo tapes state to state, countless shows played made them holler my name, Holler shame on a busta, tried to take change from another, Naww, show me the money muthaphucker, expecting me to come rap for free…From the front to the back back, everybody stand up, get them hands up, till the club shut down, put it down dog, get ur cup up, get fucked up till the club shut down, Yea I smell that, I inhaile that, I supply that sac till the club shut down, Johnny Ringo Mixtape single, and my single play till the club shut down.” Johnny Ringo is being completely real and giving the people what they want with this track that will be on his mixtape that will be on his mixtape getting released in July 2006.
The best track Ringo’s myspace page has to offer that has Ringo rapping over his own beat is “The Business” which features a Screwed down chorus with the line, “When you see me in the club put your stunner shades.” This song about stunner shades also talks about the infamous Texas habit of drinkin purple drank, which is a mixture of prescription cough syrup and sprite. Ringo Spits, “Like Nicholas Cage said, Im not leaving Las Vegas till Im dead, Doing it till its dead, wake up to the moon, go to sleep to the sun.” His lyrics are comical and dope as all hell. He also manages to give a shout out to Texas and Paul Wall in this track when he mentions sittin’ sidewayz.
On Ringo’s track “Pump’n Gas,” Ringo speaks about the President and his corrupt ways. “Pump’n Gas,” features the dope lines, “Too Many TuPacs talk in the streets, only one pac walked the streets, only one pac rocked the beat, Still a spark in me, and now adays MC’s just DYING to meet him.” DAmn that line is soo true and soo hilarious.
The Track that gives me the most confidence in Ringo’s skills is the track “Freestylin onetake” which features dope lyrics and has a feel of a singed artist. The only thing that is holdin Ringo back from being all over your radio and lil cousin’s wall is the fact that he has not gone nationwide he has all the skill he just needs his break. “Freestylin onetake” features the lines, “Ya’ll probably aint hurrd of me, Me being from Dallas Texas, When your used to Texas, and I aint got no grill, but I still ride derrty man, I hustle and I flip them bills, White boys love them pills, So I copp’d them pills.” This freestyle is dope come to Ringo’s myspace page and check it out.
The main thang Ringo has goin for him in his rap game is that he is being completely real to himself and the game wit all of his lyrics. Being real will take you far in the game and that is what Texas is all about. Finally Ringo’s stage presence is amazing. He can get on stage and work a crowd. And if you don’t believe me watch the video on the top of the screen and give your opinion on Johnny Ringo.
