Paul Wall aka the People’s Champ, aka The man who brought you grillz. Is riding on the success of his most recent album, “The People’s Champ,” which was released in September of 2005 and is getting ready to drop the much anticipated album, “Get Money, Stay True,” this coming September.
Other than working on his new album, Paul Wall has enjoyed the married life with his wife Crystal whom he married in October. Most recently the joys of having a baby boy have come into his life, when William “Fat” Patrick Slayton was born this past April.
The album, “The People’s Champ,” not only helped explode Houston onto the rap scene along with his friend Mike Jones, but “The People’s Champ” showcases Paul Wall’s amazing rap skills and proves that he will have a very long and productive rap career.
On top of his career Paul Wall is the master mind behind creating custom made grillz for most of the rappers in the game right now. Paul Wall has also made a name for himself by choppin and screwin different artist’s albums in the game, a talent that was given to him by DJ Michael “5000” Watts himself. Paul Wall’s long history with Michael Watts and the whole Swisha House family is one that will be helping him out in the game for years to come. He is even lookin into starting a Subway franchise in the Houston area that will surly blow up the spot. If Paul Wall is not your hero for one of these reasons then you need to recheck ur life and start livin right.
The first video released off the “The People’s Champ” album was Sittin’ Sideways. That song was an instant hit the minute it was released and continued to get Paul Wall’s name out to the general public when it got played on all the video request channels. The next Paul Wall video release from “The People’s Champ” was “They Don’t Know” which was actually a song Paul Wall re-released when his “People’s Champ” album dropped. This track had the streets bumpin paul wall, mike jones, and bun b’s killer verses years before “the people’s champ” album would hit the shelves.
The re-release of hit songs is an idea that was adapted by both mike jones and slim thug as well, seeing as how all three of these artists used their fame in Houston to sell thousands of cds before they got a major deal. Slim thug re-released his hits “Like a Boss” and “3 Kings” on his album “Already Platinum. These songs were Slim Thug’s biggest hits and it was only right that he re-released them to get them out to his new fans. Mike Jones re-released “Still Tippin’” which featured Paul Wall and Slim Thug, when he released the “Who is Mike Jones?” album and used the song’s success to make him rise to the top.
Arguably the most successful of the three, Paul Wall is about to release the video for his “Drive Slow” single which features Kanye West and GLC. The video will drop on Tuesday May 23rd. “Drive Slow” is a ode to crawlin’ down the street on major rims. Paul Wall wasn’t the first person to make a song praising slow driving(for example Ludacris’ recent single “2 Miles Per Hour”) but with his major standing with screwing down tracks, he brings a whole new aspect to the idea of driving slow.
The whole track has a beat that give is an out of this world feel. Kanye starts off the song, “Hit the freeway, go at least ’bout eighty, Boned so much that summer, even had him a baby, See back back then then if you had a car, You was the Chi-Town version of Baby, And I was just a virgin, a baby, One of the reasons I looked up to him crazy…With the girls a lot of flirtin involved, but dawg, Fuck all that flirtin, I’m tryin to get in some drawers, so, Put me on with these hoes homey, He told me don’t rush to get grown, drive slow homey.” Kanye’s commentary about growin up in the Chi, is captivating and his transition into the phrase “drive slow” is so masterfully put together, it is no wonder why people are saying Kanye is one of the smartest rappers in the game.
Paul Wall is the next one to spit on the track, and because of his greatness I am goin to quote all of his lines, “What it do, I’m posted up in the parkin lot, my trunk waving, The candy gloss is immaculate, it’s simply amazing, Them elbows pokin wide on that candy lac, Trunk open, screens on, neon’s lit with fifth relaxed, I’m on a mission for dime pieces and sexy ladies, Allow me to introduce you to my CL Mercedes, It’s a star-studded event when I valet park, Open up my mouth and sunlight illuminates the dark, You see them fou’s crawlin, you see them screens fallin, The disco ball in my mouth insinuates I’m ballin, I’m leanin on the switch, sittin crooked in my slab, But I could still catch boppers if I drove a cab, A young Houston hardhitter all about the scrilla, Ridin somethin candy coated, crawlin like a catapillar, I’m tippin on them four’s, I’m jammin on that Screw, I’m lookin for them hoes baby what it do.” His lyrics are amazing and set him apart from other rappers.
GLC’s lines, “And that don’t make no sense, but baby I’m the shit, And everything I flip, you know it’s somethin serious, I got the custom grill, I got the Bravis rims, I got the baller genetics baby this evidence.” Show his comic side and add great depth to the song.
The chorus of the song is, “Drive slow homey, turn your hazard lights on when you see them hoes, Drive slow homey, if you ridin around the city with nowhere to go, Drive slow homey, live today cause tomorrow man, you never know.”
Being a Paul Wall song it is only natural that Paul decides to slow down the track at the end and play a screwed version of Kanye West over the broken chorus, “Drive slow homey, drive slow homey, You never know homey, might meet some hoes homey, You need to pump your brakes and drive slow homey, Drive slow homey.”
Personally Yourgrilz.com’s favorite Paul Wall songs are featured on his “Chick Magnet” album. The hits on that album are “Chick Magnet” and “Why You Peepin Me” to name a few. We are especially feeling “The People’s Champ” album and if you don’t have it you need to go get it now. Don’t be left behind. I will personally be buying the “Get Money, Stay True” album the second it becomes available not because I want the music, but because I KNOW Paul Wall cant make a bad cd and he deserves my money for keeping it so real.
“The People’s Champ” album has guest spots from bun b, kanye west, three 6 mafia, mike jones(the original version of They don’t know), glc, BG, Freeway, lil wayne, Big Pokey, and T. I.
It is because of these artists and yourgillz favorite tracks on this album, “Sittin’ Sidewayz” “I’m a Playa” “They Don’t Know” “Smooth Operator” “Internet Goin Nutz” “Sippin’ tha barre” “Drive Slow” “Girl” and finally the last track “Just Paul Wall” that yourgrillz holds this album as one of the best albums of the past few years.
